Overview

Working alongside experienced engineers, co-ops have a unique opportunity to apply their academic learning to products that protect lives in communities around the world. The preferred candidate will be able to fill this position as a co-op, completing 3 rotations (semesters) in this role, alternating between semesters in school and semesters at MSA. Ideal schedule will be: Summer 2018, Spring 2019, Fall 2019.
 

Qualifications

Special knowledge, skills and abilities requirements:
- Hands-on technical aptitude.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Tools, with a special emphasis on Excel.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods outside of plastics
Preferred:
- Technical knowledge of injection molds
- Technical knowledge of plastics processing methods (injection molding, blow molding, & extrusion

Education and experience required:
- Incumbent should be actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a Plastics or Mechanical Engineering program and completed at least one semester of sophomore year before beginning this co-op.
Preferred:
- Pro-E capability & CAD capability
- Testing experience

Responsibilities

Co-ops in the New Product Development Manufacturing Engineering group will develop engineering skills while collaborating with other engineering disciplines and functions to bring new products into live production. Depending on the stage of the project cycle co-ops may be involved in:
- Assisting manufacturing engineers in testing, part inspection and tooling approvals.
- Working with engineers and tooling vendors to assure robust tooling and mold designs.
- Collaborating with international associates concerning plastic molding and part assembly.
- Assisting manufacturing engineers in assessing plastic part designs for ease of moldability.
- Confirming molded plastic parts meet drawing specifications, and documenting tool approvals.
